“SENIOR PROJECT FRESH” Vouchers Available at The Council on Aging Until Friday, October 4th

The Council on Aging, Inc., Port Huron Senior Center has free SENIOR PROJECT FRESH coupon voucher books still available for St. Clair County senior residents until Friday, October 4th. All vouchers are first come, first serve from 9 am to 3 pm.

SENIOR PROJECT FRESH is a program of the USDA for eligible:

  • St. Clair County seniors aged 60 or older, will fill out a simple one page application and just need to bring their valid I.D. picture.
  • One-person household income must be $2,322 a month or less.
  • Two-person household income must be $3,151 or less.

What is SENIOR PROJECT FRESH?

  • The Council on Aging raises funds from Community Supporters such as CARGILL to purchase the voucher books from the State of Michigan.
  • SENIOR PROJECT FRESH staff give eligible seniors information on why it is important to eat nutritious, locally grown produce and distributes the voucher books.
  • Seniors use these at participating farmers markets and roadside stands the select fresh produce, honey, or herbs. They pay the farmers with the vouchers.
  • The farmers turn the vouchers into the State for reimbursement.”

Thus, every dollar raised helps both low-income seniors and farming families, while supporting our local farmers markets.
