On March 20, 2022 at 3:52 a.m., Port Huron Police received a call from a 27 year old female Port Huron resident who was assaulted by her intoxicated husband in the 1200 block of Bancroft Street. The female, who had minor injuries, exited the home to call police. Shortly after, her 29 year old husband exited the home armed with a hunting rifle.
Officers met with the female in the neighborhood and began searching for the suspect. The Port Huron Police K-9 Team, Criminal Investigative Division (CID), Major Crimes Unit (MCU), Special Response Team (SRT), and Crisis Negotiation Unit (CNU) were called out to assist. At 4:20 a.m. officers heard one shot fired in the distance. A safety alert was put out on Facebook and a reverse 911 call was made to area residents to stay inside their homes.
As officers searched for the suspect, the Port Huron Police Special Response Team executed a search warrant at the residence since their three children were asleep inside. The suspect was found exiting a neighbor’s garage in the 1100 block of Bancroft Street at 7:49 a.m. and taken into custody without incident. The safety alert given to area residents was then lifted. The suspect was in possession of the rifle at the time of his arrest and a handgun was recovered during a search of the area.
