Port Huron hosted Stage 16 of the 50th anniversary Edmund Fitzgerald memorial swim on Monday, under the Blue Water Bridge. Four swimmers faced high winds, lightning delays, and tugboat troubles but kept on schedule.
Guided by a coach, the team trained in local waters and carried laminated crew names and iron-ore pellets to honor the 29 lost sailors.
The 411-mile relay started July 26th in Lake Superior and ends today in Detroit with a memorial service at Mariners’ Church.
