Groovz Night In Sarnia Offers Adult Dance Lessons

Have you ever wanted to get out on the dancefloor at your local club or event, but you just don’t feel confident, or you have two left feet? Groovz Night offers residents dancing lessons from an experienced dance instructor.

On Friday, April 28th, Dance Instructor, Michelle Mitchell will be teaching ballroom/Latin as well as general dancing at the Dante Club located at 1330 London Rd., Sarnia. Ballroom/Latin lessons take place from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. and general dancing lessons take place from 8 p.m. – 11 p.m.

Lessons will take place once per month which includes a variety of music, cash bar, and snacks. Tickets are $25/couple or $12.50/Single for members, and $30/Couple or $15/Single for non-members.

Port Huron Remembers Local Philanthropist James C. Acheson

If you live in the City of Port Huron or have ever visited, then you have most definitely experienced something in the community that wouldn’t exist if it were not for James C. Acheson.

Acheson was a well-known philanthropist and member of the Port Huron community who contributed to many of the projects and landmarks that we have come to enjoy and know so well. He passed away on April 2nd leaving behind his legacy and impact for years to come. 

Acheson served as a trustee of the Community Foundation of St. Clair County for almost two decades. He was awarded the Russell Mawby Award as well as the Distinguished Service Award, both are meant to honor exceptional lifetime achievements in philanthropy. 

Responsible for sites in Port Huron such as Desmond’s Landing and the Blue Water River Walk, Acheson also donated to numerous charities and organizations such as Sons Outreach, Mid-City Nutrition, Port Huron Museums, and more. 

The City of Port Huron has lost a true treasure indeed, and will most definitely miss Mr. James C. Acheson.

YMCA Annual Healthy Kids Day Coming Soon

Warmer weather is on the way, which means our children will be able to get outside and become more active for a healthier mind, body, and soul. 

The YMCA of the Blue Water Area is always available as a place for children and adults to participate in activities that help keep us healthy and in shape. They are announcing their annual Healthy Kids Day coming Saturday, April 29th, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Located at 1525 3rd Street, Port Huron, the Blue Water Area YMCA will be hosting the free event for families and members of the public, as an initiative to improve the health and well being in our community.

There will be the opportunity to make take-home crafts, enjoy snacks, get to know local businesses, and play around in the bounce house.

Lake Huron Medical Center Recognized For 2023 Patient Safety Excellence Award

If you’re looking for some of the best medical care in St. Clair County, look no further than Lake Huron Medical Center (LHMC), recognized by Healthgrades as a winner of the 2023 Patient Safety Excellence Award.

Lake Huron Medical Center is a member of Prime Healthcare, and for the eighth year in a row Prime Healthcare has had more Patient Safety Excellence Award recipients than any other health system.

Blue Water Safe Horizons LOL Comedy Show Offers Laughs For A Good Cause

They say that laughter is the best medicine, so if you’re looking for some health benefits you don’t want to miss the upcoming 2023 LOL Comedy Show hosted by Blue Water Safe Horizons.

Blue Water Safe Horizons is a local non profit that works to end domestic violence and sexual abuse in St. Clair County. 

The LOL Comedy Show will take place on Friday, April 21st, in the Ballroom at CityFlats Hotel located at 800 Military Street, Port Huron. Show time will be from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

It will feature comedians of varying experience levels, as well as headliner Robert Horton from the Detroit Area. There will also be some familiar faces from the local community that are not typically associated with stand-up comedy performing such as Crystal Mosher, Matt Markham, and Jeanette Roberts.

Port Huron Museums Announces Reopening Of The Thomas Edison Depot

As the weather begins to break and give us a glimpse of what’s to come, the Port Huron Huron Museums announces the reopening of one of their most popular sites, the Thomas Edison Depot Museum. 

On April 1st guests can begin scheduling their visits to take in the sights and learn a little about the boyhood home of Thomas Edison. 

The museum, located at 510 Edison Parkway, is housed in the historic Fort Gratiot train depot that Thomas Edison worked out of as a news reporter between 1859 and 1863. 

It features re-created period environments and hands-on displays that tell the story of Edison’s creativity, family support, adversity, perseverance, and triumph as one of the greatest inventors of our time. 

The museum is fully wheelchair accessible with hours of operation being Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
