Support Local Business This Year With Small Business Saturday

Everyone is pretty familiar with the after Thanksgiving sale “Black Friday,” where retail stores offer consumers reduced prices on their inventory. Black Friday is a win for both the consumers as well as the retail shops, as it allows individuals to purchase Christmas gifts at a slightly lower price and helps the stores with their bottom line during the slower winter season.

Your favorite local stores in the Blue Water Area are undoubtedly going to participate in Black Friday, but were you aware of Small Business Saturday? Small Business Saturday will be this Saturday November 26th from 11AM – 7PM, and continues each Saturday until December 17th.

Local shop owners will have sales and deals on their items just as they would on Black Friday, with the same goal, to boost income and sales during the slower winter months. Support your local business owners and entrepreneurs this season, as you may find better deals than your larger corporations, along with the service and familiarity that smaller businesses provide.

Winter Celebration Will Light Up Pine Grove Park This Week

There’s something about the holiday light displays that we all seem to love at this time of year. Pine Grove Park will have plenty of lights and holiday decor for the community to enjoy this Thanksgiving when they activate the lights at 5 PM.

From November 24th until Jan 2nd, the Winter Celebration display will be lit each day from 5 – 10 PM. Burn barrels will be available throughout the park for people to stop and find a bit of warmth while taking in the sights. There will also be photo opportunity stations available to capture the memories with family and friends.

The combined efforts of local businesses, sponsors, and organizations have made this year’s display bigger and better than the previous, with 41 businesses and organizations contributing compared to last years 34. The event is free for all to enjoy.

For businesses and groups wishing to participate or sponsor the Winter Celebration contact the Port Huron Recreation Department by email at: phrec@porthuron.org

Enter Stage Right Presents An Adaptation Of A Sci-Fi Classic

H.G. Wells’ classic science fiction novel, The Island of Dr. Moreau is being adapted into a frightening good live performance by Enter Stage Right at The Citadel.

Directed by Regina Spain, “Moreau’s Horrors” centers around an outcast doctor who runs cruel experiments on his creations of human/animal hybrids. The play is a drama/thriller with a mature content and violence warning, so if that’s not for you be sure to steer clear of this one. For those looking for something to put them in the Halloween mood, this is right up your alley. “Our preview audiences loved the story, characters, design, and of course, our amazing special effects,” says Spain.

Each weekend from Friday, October 14th – Sunday, October 23rd, guests can catch the performance at The Citadel Stage located at 609 Huron Ave, in downtown Port Huron. Pre-purchased tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children, with prices being slightly higher at the door.
