As the esports scene continues to thrive, the Athletic Factory located at 1517 10th St., Port Huron, is gearing up to host tryouts for aspiring gamers. 

With opportunities across popular titles like Fortnite, Rocket League, Madden 24, and NBA 2K24, players are encouraged to showcase their skills and compete for coveted spots on competitive teams. 

The tryouts cater to a wide age range, from 6th to 12th grade. Five teams are eligible with three to six players per team ensuring inclusivity and fostering talent development among younger gamers. Scheduled on April 9th, 11th, and 16th, players have multiple chances to prove their mettle.

Experts To Convene Workshop On Impact Of Technology On Child Development And Mental Health

On April 4th and 5th, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. respectively, the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) will host a groundbreaking workshop.

The focus? The profound influence of technology and digital media on the development and mental well-being of children and adolescents.

The workshop aims to dissect both the positive and negative impacts of technology on young minds, featuring discussions led by experts in technology, child development, and mental health. Attendees will delve into the current state of research and chart future directions.

Sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health’s Division of Translational Research and NICHD, the event is open to both the scientific community and the public. While free, registration is required to participate.

United Way Of Sarnia-Lambton Welcomes New Board Members And Announces Leadership Changes

The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton convened its Annual General Meeting, marking a pivotal moment as it welcomed two new volunteer Board Members and announced significant leadership transitions. 

Mike Edgar, Manager at Pembina Pipeline Corporation, assumes the role of 2024 Campaign Chair, succeeding Vicky Ducharme, who remains on the Board. Melanie Tiggelaar, Co-owner of The Bagel Factory, joins the Board, replacing John Girard in accordance with term limits. Notably, Executive Director Dave Brown will transition to part-time hours, paving the way for Pamela Bodkin to assume the role on July 2, 2024. 

With anticipation building for the annual Donut Day fundraiser and Charity Takeover event, United Way President Jason Killingsworth hinted at forthcoming staffing updates, underscoring the organization’s commitment to community engagement and support.

Port Huron Police Host Special Needs And Autism Acceptance Day 2024

The Port Huron Police Department (PHPD) invites the community to join them for Special Needs and Autism Acceptance Day 2024 at Pine Grove Park on Saturday, April 20th, from 11 a.m. to 1 pm. 

The event offers an opportunity to meet first responders, explore police, fire, and EMS vehicles, and receive valuable safety information. Attendees can register for PHPD’s Occupant Alert Program along with engaging in games and activities. 

Representatives from community partners like Michigan Alliance for Families, ENNIS, St. Clair County RESA, The Arc of St. Clair County, and the YMCA will be present to discuss resources and services as well.
