YMCA Annual Healthy Kids Day Coming Soon

Warmer weather is on the way, which means our children will be able to get outside and become more active for a healthier mind, body, and soul. 

The YMCA of the Blue Water Area is always available as a place for children and adults to participate in activities that help keep us healthy and in shape. They are announcing their annual Healthy Kids Day coming Saturday, April 29th, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Located at 1525 3rd Street, Port Huron, the Blue Water Area YMCA will be hosting the free event for families and members of the public, as an initiative to improve the health and well being in our community.

There will be the opportunity to make take-home crafts, enjoy snacks, get to know local businesses, and play around in the bounce house.

VNA & Blue Water Hospice 36th Annual River Run Registration Begins

The 36th Annual River Run hosted by the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) & Blue Water Hospice is their largest fundraiser and they are looking for runners and volunteers, as well as sponsors for this upcoming event.

Participants can choose between 10k, 5k, 3-mile walk, or 1-mile fun run. Individuals who sign up prior to May 17th, will receive a t-shirt. The late registration deadline is June 2nd which will add on additional registration fees. Registration is $30 for adults and $25 for those under 13 years of age. 

Those who would like to sponsor the event have a registration date of May 1st. Sponsors can choose from five package levels for one that suits their tastes. 

The VNA & Blue water Hospice is a non-profit that provides high-quality, cost-effective health care to any patient and family member with short-term, long-term, or end-of-life care.

Blue Water Safe Horizons LOL Comedy Show Offers Laughs For A Good Cause

They say that laughter is the best medicine, so if you’re looking for some health benefits you don’t want to miss the upcoming 2023 LOL Comedy Show hosted by Blue Water Safe Horizons.

Blue Water Safe Horizons is a local non profit that works to end domestic violence and sexual abuse in St. Clair County. 

The LOL Comedy Show will take place on Friday, April 21st, in the Ballroom at CityFlats Hotel located at 800 Military Street, Port Huron. Show time will be from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

It will feature comedians of varying experience levels, as well as headliner Robert Horton from the Detroit Area. There will also be some familiar faces from the local community that are not typically associated with stand-up comedy performing such as Crystal Mosher, Matt Markham, and Jeanette Roberts.

Port Huron Museums Announces Reopening Of The Thomas Edison Depot

As the weather begins to break and give us a glimpse of what’s to come, the Port Huron Huron Museums announces the reopening of one of their most popular sites, the Thomas Edison Depot Museum. 

On April 1st guests can begin scheduling their visits to take in the sights and learn a little about the boyhood home of Thomas Edison. 

The museum, located at 510 Edison Parkway, is housed in the historic Fort Gratiot train depot that Thomas Edison worked out of as a news reporter between 1859 and 1863. 

It features re-created period environments and hands-on displays that tell the story of Edison’s creativity, family support, adversity, perseverance, and triumph as one of the greatest inventors of our time. 

The museum is fully wheelchair accessible with hours of operation being Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The Arc Of St. Clair County Hosting Their Annual Flower Sale Fundraiser

The Arc of St. Clair County works to empower every adult with an intellectual/developmental disability such as autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome, along with a host of others.

They are accepting orders for their Annual Flower Sale to raise funds that will further assist the organization and their goals. A goal of $5,000 is needed and they need the support of the community to accomplish this. 

Orders must be placed by Monday, April 10th. Individuals will then be able to pick up their orders on Friday, May 10th, between Noon – 6 p.m., just in time for Mothers Day!

Prices range from $16 to $58, with a selection that includes geraniums, begonia’s, and more. Styles and types may vary due to availability at time of delivery.

Port Huron Police Dept. Announce Special Needs And Autism Acceptance Day

The month of April is World Autism Month, and the Port Huron Police Department is putting on an event to spread awareness and resources for the community. 

Special Needs and Autism Acceptance Day 2023 will take place on Saturday, April 29th, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Pine Grove Park in Port Huron.

The event will be free of charge, and all residents are welcome. People will be able to meet first responders, tour emergency vehicles and more. There will be games, crafts, and activities available, and guests can register for the home alert program. 

Organizations such as Oakland and Ferris Therapy Dogs, Michigan Alliance for Families, St. Clair County Community Mental Health, and many more will be available providing resources and information for those in attendance.
