Blue Water Sturgeon Festival Is Coming Soon To The Blue Water Area

Excitement fills the air as the Blue Water Sturgeon Festival returns, inviting visitors to marvel at the majesty of Lake Sturgeon, the Great Lakes’ gentle giants. 

On June 1st, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., attendees can immerse themselves in a close encounter with these magnificent creatures through a live sturgeon touch tank and a range of hands-on activities. The festival, hosted by Friends of the St. Clair River since 2014, showcases the remarkable journey of Lake Sturgeon from near-extinction to a symbol of habitat restoration success. 

Exclusive Sturgeon Cruises aboard The Huron Lady will offer an unparalleled experience, providing insights from biologists and live research activities. With free admission and activities, the festival, which is also a fundraiser for conservation efforts, promises a day filled with education, entertainment, and appreciation for the wonders of the Great Lakes.

Black History 101 Mobile Museum To Celebrate The Impact Of Black Music At Cleveland Elementary

Dr. Khalid El-Hakim is set to ignite minds and hearts with an immersive journey into the profound influence of African-American music in America. 

The Music of the Movement exhibit, part of the Black History 101 Mobile Museum, promises to illuminate the social, cultural, and political movements intertwined with the melodies of Black music. 

From gospel hymns to hip-hop anthems, the exhibit will showcase the resilience and contributions of African-Americans throughout history. This free community event, scheduled for Saturday, May 4th, at Cleveland Elementary School in Port Huron invites all to delve into the rich culture of Black musical heritage.  The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and you don’t want to miss Dr. Khalid’s presentation at noon, offering deeper insights into the profound impact of Black music on society.

Sanilac Museum’s Cinco De Mayo Concert Fundraiser Receives Generous Grant Sponsorships

The Sanilac County Historic Village & Museum’s upcoming Cinco de Mayo Concert Fundraiser on Sunday May 5th, is set to be a vibrant celebration of Mexican and Chicano culture, thanks to the generous support of grant sponsorships. The event will feature local talent Sonny D, along with headlining act Conjunto Champz of Saginaw.

Conjunto Champz, renowned for their fusion of Tex-Mex, Tejano, and Norteño music, promises an authentic showcase of cultural diversity. This blend of Mexican, Spanish, Czech, and German influences exemplifies the rich blend of American heritage.

Yale and Marysville Public Schools Partner With SC4 To Simplify College Enrollment Process For High School Seniors

Yale and Marysville Public Schools along with St. Clair County Community College (SC4) have joined forces in a pioneering effort to revolutionize the college enrollment process for high school seniors. Effective immediately, graduating seniors from Yale and Marysville Public Schools will no longer need to complete a college application to gain admission to SC4. 

This innovative collaboration aims to facilitate a seamless transition from high school to higher education, providing students with immediate access to scholarships, advising, and essential college services.

Starting with the class of 2024, student data from Yale and Marysville Public Schools will be integrated into SC4’s system, enabling seniors to activate their SC4 accounts and initiate enrollment procedures for the Fall 2024 semester without delay.

Graduates can anticipate receiving a letter in early May outlining the initiative’s benefits and providing instructions on how to activate their SC4 accounts, with further guidance to follow.

The winners of the 2024 Official Community’s Choice Awards, Best of the Blue Water Area, were revealed in a dazzling ceremony at City Flats Hotel Port Huron on Wednesday, April 24th. 

WGRT’s Sales Manager, Vickie Lemonis, secured the title of local best in Advertising/Marketing, further adding to her impressive accolades. Lemonis, who also clinched Alignables’ 2024 Local Business Person of the Year earlier this year, expressed her astonishment upon receiving the honor, having attended the event as a last-minute guest. “I had no idea I was going to win an award; I was just going to show my support, and I’m extremely grateful to be a winner,” Lemonis stated. 

Thankful for the votes, Lemonis dedicated the award to WGRT and its dedicated team, emphasizing their collective effort in shaping a remarkable local business. Congratulations to all of the night’s winners, celebrating the vibrant spirit of the Blue Water Area.

LaFontaine Ford St. Clair Donates 2015 Ford Fiesta To St. Clair County Technical Education Center

St. Clair County Technical Education Center (TEC) received a significant boost to its Automotive Technology and Collision Repair programs with the generous donation of a 2015 Ford Fiesta from LaFontaine Ford St. Clair. 

The unveiling of the vehicle took place during a special presentation at TEC on April 23, attended by representatives from LaFontaine Automotive Group, Ford, educators, and students.

Lesley Murphy, principal at St. Clair TEC, expressed gratitude for the donation, highlighting its impact on students’ hands-on learning experience and future career prospects in the automotive industry. The partnership with LaFontaine will equip students with the latest automotive technology knowledge and skills, further enhancing the county’s workforce development efforts. The Ford Fiesta will be a valuable addition to TEC’s programs, empowering students for success in their chosen automotive careers.
