Outdoor Fitness Court Opens in Marysville

Marysville, MI — Fitness opportunities just keep on growing in the Blue Water area. Morton Park in Marysville is the location of the latest addition to the health and wellness scene.

The Outdoor Fitness Court had its grand opening on July 20th and the Marysville Recreation Department is receiving a lot of good feedback about the project.

The project was created by the National Fitness Campaign. They have over 100 similar playgrounds nationwide with a goal of bringing 1000 courts to communities across the country by 2022. They partner with Priority Health in Michigan to give grants to 15 cities and Marysville was one of the lucky winners.

Stefanie Schneider, Recreation Coordinator for the City of Marysville, said, “Our court is located at Morton Park, which is home to the St. Clair County Community College Soccer team and the skatepark.”

Schneider said that she has wanted to provide outdoor fitness equipment for years and when the opportunity came along, she jumped on it.

The equipment is meant for use by those ages 14 and up and is for physical fitness. It is considered an outdoor gym and has instructions and equipment for a good outdoor workout year-round.

Marysville’s Jasen Hrisca Honored by Air Force

The Distinguished Flying Cross Medal is the United States Air Force’s highest honor for heroism in aerial flight, and a Marysville native just received the award.

Captain Jasen Hrisca received the award after his contribution to a flight that saved the lives of 88 American and Afghan service members. Hrisca and his crew from the 73rd Special Operations Squadron provided protective air cover which facilitated a safe evacuation for troops on the ground.

Hrisca said, “We were just doing our primary job. For gunship crews, this is keeping the ground force safe. The most rewarding part is knowing that we were able to get them all out alive. This isn’t always the case, and I’m thankful we were able to go to work and get them out.”

Captain Hrisca was honored in a letter from Embry-Riddle President P. Barry Butler who said, “While the meritorious achievement the Air Medal represents was a heroic and harrowing experience, I also want to commend you for what you have contributed through almost ten years of U.S. Air Force service. Through your role as an instructor, combat systems officer, navigator and AC-130J weapons and tactics officer, you undoubtedly save the lives of fellow fliers and protect us all.”

License and Registration Expirations Extended to September 30

Port Huron, MI — Driver’s License, State ID, and vehicle registration expirations have been extended to September 30th. Bills were signed into law to codify previous Executive Orders that extended expirations. Secretary of State offices are currently taking appointments only. This order allows some breathing room for those residents who may be panicking about getting an appointment, social distancing, or paying for vehicle registration renewals.

According to Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, “These bills will give Michigan residents peace of mind and reduce the amount of person to person interaction necessary when renewing licenses and registrations.”

While this action is intended to reduce the number of in-person transactions at the Secretary of State branches, residents are reminded that most transactions can be conducted online, by mail, or at a Self-Service Station. Locally, there are stations at the Secretary of State Branch Office on Krafft Road in Port Huron and at the Marysville Meijer.

Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson commented on the new law saying, “We have been continually assessing the safest way to maintain branch operations and this legislation will go a long way toward those efforts.”
