Blue Water Area Hosts Spectacular Firework Displays For Independence Day Celebrations

The Blue Water Area community is gearing up for a series of dazzling firework displays to celebrate Independence Day. Gather your family and friends to enjoy these family-friendly events near you.

On July 4th, head to Port Austin for a vibrant fireworks show, along with a 9:45 pm display in St. Clair. The celebrations continue on July 5th, with spectacular fireworks in Lexington, Caseville, and Algonac, all beginning at 9:45 pm.

The festivities will extend into the weekend with a fireworks display in Port Sanilac on July 6th. The celebrations wrap up on July 13th, with the Maritime Fireworks in Harbor Beach.

Governor Whitmer Eases Traffic Restrictions For 4th of July Travel

Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced starting today at 3 p.m., traffic restrictions will be lifted on nearly 60% of road and bridge projects statewide to alleviate delays for holiday travelers. AAA estimates over 2.6 million Michigan residents will travel 50 miles or more from home this Fourth of July weekend, setting a new record for the second consecutive year.

“Fourth of July weekend is a time to come together with family and friends,” said Whitmer. “To ensure Michiganders can get to their destinations safely and on time, we’re lifting traffic restrictions.”

The traffic restrictions will be lifted until 6 a.m. Monday, July 8th, 105 out of 174 projects will have lane restrictions removed.

St. Clair County RESA’s Next STEP Transition Program Empowers Young Adults With Disabilities

The Next STEP Transition Program by St. Clair County RESA offers vital support for young adults aged 18 to 26 with documented disabilities. 

In the classroom, students learn essential “soft” skills that are fundamental to both personal and professional success. These skills include basic living abilities such as cooking, budgeting, and managing finances. Additionally, students are taught employability skills, such as operating a cash register, making change, and adhering to a structured schedule. 

Students gain practical work experience through placements at real-world job sites, learning customer service, stocking, or assembly tasks. To join, candidates must be eligible for special education services, have attended high school for at least four years, and demonstrate potential for independence.

Port Huron Announces 2024 Fireworks Ordinance

The City of Port Huron has issued its 2024 Fireworks Ordinance. Fireworks are only permitted between June 29th and July 5th until 11:45 p.m. Violations incur a $1000 civil infraction. 

Fireworks must be used on private property only. Using public spaces like roadways, sidewalks, parks, churches, schools, or others’ properties without permission can also lead to a $1000 fine.

Additionally, discharging fireworks under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances is strictly prohibited. Violators may face up to a $1000 fine. If the violation causes property damage, offenders may be charged with a misdemeanor, punishable by up to 90 days in jail and/or a fine of up to $1000. 

The ordinance aims to ensure a safe and enjoyable Independence Day for all residents.

Family Fun Day And WWII Pullman Troop Kitchen Car Grand Opening At Sanilac County Museum

The Sanilac County Museum, located at 228 S. Ridge St (M25) in Port Sanilac, announces two days of free fun for the public. 

Friday, July 5th, will be Family Fun Day, a fun-filled event where you can enjoy free activities and games including petting zoos from Timber Creek Farm and Thumb Balls Ball Pythons. 

Enjoy Summer Story Time where you can check out free books and crafts. Support Farmers Market vendors from 1 – 5 p.m., enjoy delicious treats from Hot Dog Hut, and Extreme Freeze food trucks, and also $5 pony rides.

On Saturday, July 6th, join the grand opening of the WWII Pullman Troop Kitchen Car at Sanilac County Museum. The event starts at 4pm with acknowledgements and a flag-raising ceremony, followed by a patriotic concert by the Deckerville Area Community Choir at 5 p.m.

Celebrate The Fourth Of July And The Origins Of America’s Holiday

The Fourth of July, also known as Independence Day, can be traced back to its roots in the 18th century and the American Revolutionary War which granted independence and the birth of the United States that we know today. 

On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted for independence from Great Britain, and on July 4th, delegates adopted the Declaration of Independence, drafted by Thomas Jefferson. Initially commemorated with patriotic celebrations, such as bonfires and the firing of cannons and muskets, the holiday gained further significance post-War of 1812. 

In 1870, Congress declared it a federal holiday, and in 1941, it became a paid holiday for federal employees. Today, the Fourth of July is celebrated with fireworks, parades, concerts, and family gatherings, symbolizing American freedom and patriotism.
