Port Huron Police Dept Receives Funding For Community Engagement

In any community there must be a competent and trustworthy police force to maintain law and order. To better gain the community’s trust and respect, officers are expected to conduct themselves as servants to those in the community.

The Port Huron Police Department (PHPD) is looking to have more community involvement, build a better relationship with residents, and to also receive their support as well. Through a generous gift from the James C. Acheson Fund, a new Port Huron Police Fund has been created to help do just that.

The new Port Huron Police Fund will help the department focus on community outreach through programs such as a summer reading program, community cupboards that offer free essential everyday items at their two outreach centers, and a new community outreach trailer loaded with games, sports equipment, TVs, and toys.

Police Chief Joe Platzer says, “It’s a win-win for our whole community and we’re excited to continue our partnership with the residents of Port Huron.”

Feeding the hungry, and helping the less fortunate is something that we can all be a part of. If you don’t have the finances to donate to a good cause, many organizations would greatly appreciate your time.

The Blue Water Feed The World Project is a nonprofit organization that helps deliver food to those less fortunate, not only in the local community but across the world as well. On Saturday, January 14th, volunteers will be at Colonial Woods Missionary Church in Port Huron packing and preparing food to be delivered to local food pantries. A portion of the packaged meals will also be shipped to Haiti, Poland, Romania, Texas, and Florida.

The project is still in need of monetary donations, with the goal of raising $30,000 to pack 100,000 meals during the course of the event.

If you would like to make a monetary donation or volunteer in helping package and prepare meals, visit: KCAH.Info.

If you would like to adopt an “angel” this Christmas you can go to the Birchwood Mall and select a name or multiple names from the angel tree to shop for. After you purchase your gift, you can then drop off your purchase at The Salvation Army located at 2000 Court Street in Port Huron.

“Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over” Says County Sheriff Office

The Christmas season brings all sorts of festive activities to partake in. There’s Christmas parties at work, family events, and much more. Drinking is often involved, so be sure to drink responsibly.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) alongside the St. Clair County Sheriff Department will be participating in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement. From December 16th, 2022 thru January 1st, 2023, officers will be on the lookout for drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

It is illegal to operate a motor vehicle in Michigan if your blood alcohol concentration (BAC) is .08 or higher, but if an officer feels that you are impaired, you can still be arrested. In 2021 nearly 47 percent of car related fatalities involved alcohol or drugs.
