Vaccine Clinics in St. Clair County May 5-8

The St. Clair Health Department and its partners are offering the following vaccine clinics throughout the county this week:

Wednesday, May 5:

  • Marysville: Knight Club 2-7 PM, Walk-in, Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine, 18 and older
  • Capac: Council on Aging Office 10 AM – 3 PM, Schedule an appointment <HERE> or walk-in, Moderna vaccine, 18 and older

Thursday, May 6: 

  • Marysville: Marysville Fire Department 3-6 PM, Schedule an appointment <HERE> or drive-ups welcome, Pfizer vaccine, 16 and older. Parental consent needed for under 18.

Saturday, May 8:

Additional Clinics:

  • Algonac, Capac, Memphis School Districts: parents in these districts can contact their school offices for more information about vaccine clinics at their buildings on Wednesday, May 5th
  • Marysville: Knight Club 2-7 PM every Wednesday in May, Walk-in, Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine, 18 and older

 

TEC Students Awarded Medals at SkillsUSA

St. Clair County, MI — Students attending the Digital Media Technology program at St. Clair TEC learn a variety of media production techniques including audio, video, photography and graphic design. This year’s class included two teams of students who won awards at the SkillsUSA virtual contest.

Kristian Duffy from Port Huron Northern and Maria Falleti from Marine City achieved a Bronze Medal for Audio Production.

Noah Atherton from Port Huron Northern and Zachary Floyd from Virtual Learning Academy won a gold medal for Digital Cinema Production, and they will represent Michigan at the National Virtual SkillsUSA competition in June. Their winning project can be viewed <HERE>.

Students at St. Clair TEC compete in Skills USA to improve their skills and develop a competitive edge in vocational and technical career areas. Skills USA also heavily focuses on developing positive attitudes, professional skills, and teamwork.

Vantage Point Farmers Market Opens Saturday

Port Huron, MI — Those of you who have been waiting for your favorite Farmer’s Markets to open, can get ready to begin your outdoor shopping this weekend. Saturday, May 8th is opening day for the Vantage Point Farmers Market, which rings in outdoor market shopping in the Blue Water Area.

Vantage Point Farmers Market opens up at 51 Water Street in Port Huron at 8 AM on May 8th, and it will be open until 2 PM. Shoppers can enjoy a stroll along the St. Clair River while collecting fresh grown and homemade foods, plants, hanging flower baskets, and locally grown and packaged meats.

The St. Clair Farmers Market is slated to open June 2nd and take place every Wednesday from 7 AM until noon until the end of October. It takes place in the Riverview Plaza parking lot across from the St. Clair Inn.

Work Day and Wildflower Walk Planned at Columbus County Park

St. Clair County, MI — The Friends of the St. Clair River are inviting to community to join them for an Eco-Stewardship Work Day and Wildflower Walk on Saturday, May 8th from 10 AM – 12 PM at Columbus County Park.

The event will focus on exploring the park in search of spring wildflowers and then removing invasive species. Naturalist and wildflower enthusiast, Mary Kay Weber, will lead the hike and provide educational information about the park’s ecosystem.

This is a free event, but registration is required by emailing stewardship@scriver.org. Participants are asked to dress for the weather and bring their own gloves, face covering, water, and snack. Gardening tools are optional.

This event is part of the Friends of the St. Clair River’s Second Saturday Stewardship Series, and more information is available at scriver.org.

Sheriff’s Office Seeking Information on Suspicious Death

Port Huron Township, MI — The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance regarding a suspicious death.

Deputies were called to the 3000 block of Howard Street at about 12:30 Tuesday afternoon for a dead body found in a field.  When they arrived, they were directed by a witness to a vacant lot, where the body of a man was located.  

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office were able to determine the identity of the body, a 34 year old white male from Port Huron Township.  A preliminary investigation determined that the man had died in another location and was later transported to the field, where he was left.

The investigation regarding the cause and manner of death is ongoing.

Get Ready for The Great Michigan Scavenger Hunt

Port Huron, MI — The Michigan Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus wants people to get out and explore Michigan’s towns, cities, and scenery, and the organization is planning a statewide scavenger hunt from May 2 – 8th complete with hidden treasures.

The Great Michigan Scavenger Hunt starts with a check in on social media with one of the participating visitor’s bureaus. The Blue Water Area Convention and Visitors Bureau is the closest for those who want to find one of the 9 treasures hidden in the Blue Water Area. A map of all participating location is available <HERE>.

Clues will be posted on social media that will lead participants to a silver tin with a sticker on top that says, “The Great Michigan Scavenger Hunt”. Once found, the contents of the box belong to the treasure hunter. Prizes include gift cards to restaurants, shopping destinations, and Michigan activities.

After the scavenger hunt, the promotion continues throughout May, and Michigan travelers can share their favorite travel memories on Twitter and Instagram using the #MIPowerOfTravel. Ten winners will be chosen for a special Michigan Road Trip Travel package.
