The Rookie Pitches Inspiration at Port Huron Town Hall

Port Huron Town Hall has been bringing incredible speakers to our community since 1955 & Monday was one for the books. Jim “The Rookie” Morris, whose story became the hit Disney film, took the stage at McMorran & WGRT Account Executive Vickie Lemonis was invited back stage to sit down privately with Jim & his wife Shawna beforehand. Morris was a Texas teacher & coach who, at 35, stunned the scouts with 98-mile-an-hour fastballs & made it to the Major Leagues. His message: surround yourself with “Dream Makers,” the people who build you up. Jim’s funniest moment came when he shared that actor Jim Caviezel once told him he’d tried for the part in The Rookie, but Dennis Quaid got it. Morris told him, “Son, you’re too handsome to play me.” Well, don’t feel bad for Caviezel… he later stepped up to the plate & went on to play Jesus! The whole room burst out laughing. If you haven’t seen The Rookie, watch it. You’ll walk away believing it’s never too late to chase your dream.

Next up at Port Huron Town Hall: Ty Pennington, Monday, November 9th at McMorran.
