In a crucial update for Michiganders who received unemployment benefits in 2023, the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) has released individual 1099-G tax statements online. The UIA, responsible for over 224,000 tax forms, aims to assist claimants in fulfilling their state and federal tax obligations.
The 1099-G form provides a comprehensive breakdown of total benefits received and taxes withheld. However, recipients should note that the displayed amount may differ due to automatic deductions, such as repayments for overpaid benefits or court-ordered payments.
To access your statement, log into the Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM), navigate to “I Want To,” and click on the “1099-G” link. Save a copy for your records, and if you opted for a paper statement, expect it by the end of January.
