Winter Fire Hazards And Safety Tips

The Christmas season brings all of the sights and sounds that many look forward to each year. Whether it be the Christmas trees in our homes, the sounds of a cozy fire, or the beautiful light displays in our yards. What you may not know, is that December is the month that house fires are most common.

To keep your family safe this holiday season, check out our tips on fire safety to reduce the chances of a fire in your home.

  • Keep Christmas trees at least six feet away from fireplaces.
  • Make sure your tree is watered consistently to avoid drying out, which increases fire hazard.
  • Do not overload sockets or extension cords with lights and decor.

The number one cause of house fires in December is caused by cooking. So make sure that you keep flammable objects away from your cooking area and keep a fire extinguisher nearby.
