Protect Our Children: Internet Safety Resource Available For Schools And Parents

The month of April is recognized as National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Secretary of State, Jocelyn Benson and Attorney General Dana Nessel are encouraging parents and schools to sign up for Michigan’s ProtectMiChild Registry.

With many children today using phones and tablets, or other means to connect to the internet, the potential for them to encounter questionable or unsuitable content for a child increases exponentially. Even sites that we may not think are dangerous could be compromised by those seeking to expose or exploit our children.

ProtectMiChild is a free program that blocks adult-themed content, as well as ads for alcohol, tobacco, and gambling. The program can also connect with their social media apps such as Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram. They will be adding Youtube and TikTok to the list in upcoming months.

If you would like to register your child or students to the program, visit: protectmichild.com.
