Winter Car Seat Safety Tips

With freezing temperatures hitting the Thumb region, the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office is urging parents to follow winter car seat safety tips. Bulky winter coats can prevent car seat straps from tightening correctly, putting children at serious risk in an accident. Instead, parents are advised to dress kids in layers with a snug fleece jacket, then add a blanket or coat over the straps for warmth. For car seat safety assistance, contact St. Clair County’s program at (810) 966-3706.

Michigan Parks Fee Increase

Camping at Michigan state parks will cost more starting August 1st, with fees rising for modern and semi-modern campsites and lodging. Campsite rates will increase by $4 to $10 per night, while lodging will range from $60 to $120, with deluxe options hitting $160. High-demand locations with 85% or more occupancy will include extra fees of up to 7.5%. Modern lodges will see phased hikes, eventually reaching $236 nightly, plus a $50 premium for popular spots.
