Marvelous Museums Fundraiser

Join the Port Huron Museums for their “Marvelous Museums” fundraiser on Saturday, March 1st, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the St. Clair Inn. Tickets are $65, with table deals available. Wage & Benefit Survey

The Economic Development Alliance of St. Clair County (EDA) invites local businesses to participate in the annual Wage & Benefit Survey. The online survey, closing on Friday, will provide valuable insights for attracting and retaining talent. Participants will receive a complimentary copy of the survey’s results. The survey includes questions on compensation, benefits, and hiring forecasts. The EDA emphasizes the importance of this data in staying competitive in today’s tight labor market.

Lexington Bach Festival Grant

The Lexington Arts Council has received a $10,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to support the annual Lexington Bach Festival. As the only recipient in Michigan’s Thumb region, the Council will use the funds to celebrate the festival’s 25th anniversary with three concerts from September 10th–14th, alongside informal recitals at local churches and schools. NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson praised the Council’s creative efforts, while Council President Liz Jackson highlighted the importance of community support to match the grant.

Man Injured in SUV Rollover Incident

A 23-year-old man from Lexington suffered minor injuries after his SUV rolled over Friday night in Worth Township. Around 9 p.m., emergency crews responded to South Lakeshore Road near Galbraith Line Road. Authorities say the man was trying to pass another vehicle when he hit a snow and ice patch, lost control, and rolled into a field. EMS treated him at the scene before he was taken to Lake Huron Medical Center. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to have played a role in the crash.

Yale Chamber Embezzlement Case Under Investigation

The Yale Area Chamber of Commerce disclosed in December that their treasurer was involved in an alleged embezzlement case. Kellie Lauwers, wife of State Sen. Dan Lauwers, served as treasurer since’19 but was replaced by Fred Manulow. The Chamber is collaborating with law enforcement and auditors to assess the situation. President Kate DeRue stated new measures include limiting account signers and enhancing bank account access. The board now includes monthly reconciliation reports for transparency. It’s unclear if charges have been filed.
