Crash Sends Three to Hospital

A two-vehicle crash happened last Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Germania and West Sanilac roads, in Sanilac County. An 18-year-old Marlette woman driving a Kia Soul stopped at a stop sign but then moved into the path of a Ford Escape driven by a 68-year-old woman from Perry. Both vehicles ended up in a ditch. All occupants, including a passenger from the Kia, were taken to Marlette Regional Hospital, with one later transferred to McLaren Lapeer. Alcohol was ruled out as a cause.

Barber Offers Free Back-to-School Haircuts

As Port Huron students get ready to head back to class, barber Tre White is stepping up to help. On August 30th, White will offer free haircuts for boys of all school ages at Knox Field. A ’14 Port Huron High graduate, White wants to ease the back-to-school expenses for families by giving local kids fresh cuts. No appointments are needed, and walk-ins are welcome. If bad weather hits, the event will be rescheduled before school starts.

Chatham-Kent Residents Unite

Residents of Chatham-Kent came together in Dresden on Sunday to form a human chain protesting the York1 landfill project. The peaceful event stretched about two kilometers from the inactive dump site on Irish School Road to Dresden Area Central School. Organizer Angie Richards-Mills, a local school board trustee, united the community to protect farmland, water, and children’s futures. The protest opposed Bill 5, which fast-tracked the landfill without an environmental review. The chain began at 1 p.m., with parking available nearby on Richards-Mills’ family farm.

Town Hall Speaker Series Lineup

Port Huron Town Hall will kick off its annual Speaker Series on September 8th at McMorran Place Theatre. Olympic gold medalist Tara Lipinski will open the lineup, sharing her Olympic journey and life as a mother in conversation with a Detroit TV personality. The series continues with author Ben Nemtin on October 13th, former CIA agent Jonna Mendez on November 10th, and broadcaster-musician Devin Scillian on December 8th.
