Teen Fleeing Causes Fatal Crash

A 16-year-old Detroit boy faces possible adult charges after a deadly crash in Warren over a week ago. Police tried to stop a stolen car near I-94 and Gratiot, but the teen fled, leading officers on a chase onto I-696 and local roads. The chase ended when he ran a red light and crashed into a Ford driven by 28-year-old Madison Heights father Alex Habib, who later died at the hospital. The suspect was treated for minor injuries and taken to juvenile detention.

Holland Beach Opened for Swimming

Holland Beach in Port Huron is once again open for swimming. The St. Clair County Health Department lifted its July 17 advisory after fresh test results confirmed E. coli levels are now within Michigan’s safe limits. The warning had been issued due to high bacteria levels, often caused by stormwater runoff and strong waves stirring up contaminants. After days of monitoring and additional water samples, health officials confirmed the water is safe, and the beach is cleared for public use. Swimmers are urged to stay aware during heavy rains, which can trigger future advisories.
