Meth Bust on Carleton Street

The St. Clair County Drug Task Force recently carried out a search warrant at a residence on the 1300 block of Carleton Street in Port Huron. During the search, officers discovered over 25 grams of methamphetamine, along with drug paraphernalia and materials used for packaging narcotics. The homeowner, 57-year-old David Kirkendall, was arrested at the scene. He faces serious charges, including a felony for possessing a controlled substance after a prior conviction. As a repeat offender, Kirkendall’s charges come with a double penalty.

The Big Give

The Community Foundation of St. Clair County is bringing back The Big Give, a 24-hour fundraising event today, aimed at supporting over 60 local nonprofits. The last event in ’21 raised $700,000 in just one day, contributing to a total of $2.2 million over five events. This year, the foundation hopes to surpass that success. The Big Give makes it easy to donate to multiple causes through online and in-person options, with bonus funds boosting the impact of each donation. Organizations supporting everything from education to animal welfare will benefit.

St. Clair County Road Project Round-up

This week, several road projects will impact St. Clair County. In Berlin Township, Lathrop Road will close for one day for culvert work. Brockway Township sees lane closures on Emmett Road for ditching and a full-day closure for culvert replacement. M-19 in Brockway and Emmett will have lane closures from Wednesday to May 28th due to joint repairs. MDOT’s mill and fill project on Wildcat Road in Clyde and Grant Townships will cause intermittent lane closures. Other closures include Broadbridge Road in Cottrellville for a culvert replacement.

SC4 Hosts Michigan Wheelchair Basketball State Championship

The SC4 Fieldhouse in Port Huron hosted the Michigan Wheelchair Basketball State Championship on Saturday. Three teams competed: the SC4 Skippers, University of Michigan Wolverines, and Michigan State University Spartans. These are the only collegiate wheelchair basketball teams in Michigan. The championship honored Brad Seymore, a local SC4 graduate and Port Huron resident who passed away last year after a spinal cord injury.  Admission was free, allowing fans to support these talented athletes.

McKenzie Health Offering Sports Physicals

McKenzie Health System is offering sports physicals for just $15 through August 31st,  at all family healthcare clinic locations. This service helps students in grades 6-12 meet Michigan High School Athletic Association requirements for school sports. Students who’ve had a recent wellness visit can submit their form at no extra cost. Physicals will be offered at local schools: Sandusky, CPS, and Croswell-Lexington . Lake Huron Medical Center in Port Huron has earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group for the 14th time in a row. The only hospital in St. Clair County to achieve this, LHMC has been recognized every spring and fall since ’18 for its dedication to patient safety. The grade reflects efforts in preventing errors, infections, and injuries, with real-time data collection and strict safety protocols in place. LHMC’s ongoing commitment earned them the 2025 Patient Safety Excellence Award from Healthgrades.
