While drivers won’t be able to cross Meldrum Creek until mid-May, local traffic and emergency access will stay open on both sides. Residents should expect some travel delays through spring.

A St. Clair Township man will spend life in prison for killing his father. Twenty-four-year-old Wyatt Stimac was sentenced Thursday for first-degree murder. Judge Donald Teeple called Stimac’s actions “puzzling,” saying he showed no remorse. Prosecutors said Stimac shot his father, Shane, last March after an argument about living at home. The jury took less than 30 minutes to convict him. His sister Avery testified she heard the gunshot and later condemned him in court. Stimac also received two years for felony firearm use.

A year after Vincent Buckles was found shot to death inside his Vanness Street home, a judge has ruled the two people accused in his killing will face separate jury trials. Judge Michael West decided Tuesday that 37-year-old Sayon Florence and 23-year-old Dazman Drake can’t be tried together because each plans to blame the other. Investigators say Florence, Buckles’ former partner, told police she only meant to scare him, not have him killed. The separate trials could push back the April court date for at least one defendant.
