The Salvation Army Angel Tree: 150 Children Need Adopting

The Salvation Army has been supporting those in need since 1865. Each season at Christmas you may see them ringing the bell outside of your favorite local store collecting donations to provide a good Christmas for little boys and girls in the community.

The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree, located at Birchwood Mall in Port Huron, still has approximately 150 boys and girls that need toys for Christmas. If you would like to adopt an “angel” this Christmas you can go to the Birchwood Mall and select a name or multiple names from the angel tree to shop for. After you purchase your gift, you can then drop off your purchase at The Salvation Army located at 2000 Court Street in Port Huron.

With only two days left for the angel tree deadline, and five days until Christmas, make sure you don’t delay, and adopt an angel today.

How Climbing Can Provide Winter Clothing For Youth In Need

The drop in temperature is letting us know winter is on its way. Many of our local youth, teens and young children, struggle with having warm clothing to protect themselves from the elements. Port Huron Museums in partnership with Kids In Distress Services are holding an event to help keep our children warm this winter.

The Sunset Tower Climb for K.I.D.S (Kids in Distress Services) will take place Friday, November 11th from 6:15 PM – 8:15 PM. Tickets are free, but donations of diapers or towels (bath or hand) are welcomed.

Guests will be climbing the Fort Gratiot Lighthouse at dusk to see a beautiful sunset from a different perspective. Clothing items provided for those in need consist of clothes, hats, mittens, and gloves, as well as deodorant and other personal hygiene items.

For more information on the event and how you can help, visit: kidsindistressservices.org.

Help Support Breast Cancer Awareness At The 2nd Annual Pink Tie Gala

Many of us know of someone whose life has been changed by a cancer diagnosis. When Emily Goudy received the news that her sister’s friend was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, she and her husband Steve decided to become active in making a change for those affected.

They started with their calendar and human ribbon to raise funds which they used to donate to different breast cancer funds through the St. Clair County Community Foundation. In 2014 they began their own “Taking a Shot at Breast Cancer Fund.”

This year they’ll be hosting their 2nd Annual Pink Tie Gala. On Friday, October 21st, from 6 PM – 11 PM at the Blue Water Convention Center, there will be dinner, a silent auction, and dancing. Tickets are $65 per person.

If you would like to be a sponsor, donor, or purchase tickets visit: takingashotatbreastcancer.org for more information.
