Help Support Breast Cancer Awareness At The 2nd Annual Pink Tie Gala

Many of us know of someone whose life has been changed by a cancer diagnosis. When Emily Goudy received the news that her sister’s friend was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, she and her husband Steve decided to become active in making a change for those affected.

They started with their calendar and human ribbon to raise funds which they used to donate to different breast cancer funds through the St. Clair County Community Foundation. In 2014 they began their own “Taking a Shot at Breast Cancer Fund.”

This year they’ll be hosting their 2nd Annual Pink Tie Gala. On Friday, October 21st, from 6 PM – 11 PM at the Blue Water Convention Center, there will be dinner, a silent auction, and dancing. Tickets are $65 per person.

If you would like to be a sponsor, donor, or purchase tickets visit: takingashotatbreastcancer.org for more information.

Golf Outing Raises Over $55K for Karmanos Cancer Institute

The ninth annual Tee It Up to Beat Cancer golf outing was held July 9th at Lakeview Hills Golf Resort, Lexington. This fundraiser, organized by Dana and Dennis Fabbri, raised a record-high $55,583 to support cancer treatment and services at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Port Huron.

The donation from this year’s outing will be used to upgrade the TrueBeam radiation system table and treatment delivery software to a version which will be compatible with the breathing system software that was purchased last year.

Over the past nine years, Tee It Up to Beat Cancer has raised more than $275,000. The donations have purchased state-of-the-art equipment for radiation patients, sponsored a private infusion bay for chemotherapy, and supplied heated massage chairs for chemotherapy bays.

Sara Tait, Director of McLaren Port Huron Foundation said, “Thanks to the generous donations from the Tee It Up golf outing, we have a state-of-the-art cancer center right here in the Blue Water Area. This takes so much stress away from the patients and their families who don’t have to make an hour or more drive for daily treatments.”
