The event, held at Alexander’s Premier Banquet Facility and Catering in Marysville from 6 – 9 p.m., promises an unforgettable evening with a special guest appearance by Julianne Ankley, a celebrated Singer/Songwriter named CBS Detroit’s “Best Of Country Music in Detroit.”

United Way Of Sarnia-Lambton Surpasses Fundraising Goal, Raises $1.42M For Community Programs

In a remarkable achievement, the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton proudly announced that its 2023 fundraising campaign has not only met but exceeded expectations, raising an impressive $1,420,000, nearly 101.4% of the initial target of $1.4 million. 

Vicky Ducharme, the 2023 United Way Campaign Chair, expressed gratitude for the community’s support and revealed that key anonymous donations played a crucial role in surpassing the goal. She highlighted that, despite the official goal being $1.4M, the actual community needs are closer to $1.6M.

The success comes after the United Way faced challenges during the COVID pandemic, missing previous fundraising goals. The campaign anticipates ending near 104%, supporting 18 agencies and 30 local programs, primarily focused on poverty-related services, youth programming, and community well-being.

Blue Water Developmental Housing Holds Detroit Red Wings Fundraiser

On January 11th, 2024, at 7 p.m., the Detroit Red Wings will play a crucial game against the Edmonton Oilers at the Little Caesars Arena for a special fundraiser. The event aims to raise funds for Blue Water Developmental Housing, Inc. 

Tickets are for Section 101, and are priced at $130, plus transaction fees. Purchasers will not only witness an exciting game but will also receive a complimentary t-shirt to wear at the event. The first 56 ticket buyers stand a chance to ride on the exclusive party bus, while the first 150 will receive a swag bag. All proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit Blue Water Developmental Housing, supporting employee education and emergency funds. 

Fun Fact: Port Huron native, Jack Campbell, plays the goalie position for the Oilers.

Sherman Woods Neighborhood Gears Up For Eighth Annual Red Kettle Campaign To Spread Christmas Cheer

Port Huron’s Sherman Woods neighborhood is set to dazzle once again with its vibrant Christmas spirit as residents and volunteers prepare to man the Red Kettle for the eighth consecutive year. 

Known for its festive light displays, the neighborhood has been a beacon for holiday enthusiasts, offering them a chance to contribute to the annual Salvation Army fundraising campaign. Since its inception in 2016, the tradition has successfully raised nearly $34,000, with the 2022 campaign alone generating $5,789. 

Fred Kemp, President of the Sherman Woods Homeowners Association, expressed gratitude for the community’s generosity, emphasizing the funds’ positive impact on providing gifts for children and meals for families in need. The Red Kettle will be stationed at Armour Street and LaSalle Boulevard, featuring bell ringing on Fridays and Saturdays throughout December, with special appearances by the Salvation Army Band and Santa Claus.

Michigan Economic Development Corporation Grants $500,000 To SONS Outreach, Fueling $750,000 Capital Campaign For Building Renovation

In a significant boost for Port Huron’s SONS Outreach, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) has allocated a generous $500,000 grant. This grant kick-starts a $750,000 capital campaign aiming to renovate the recently acquired former Harrison Elementary School building. 

SONS Outreach, owning the property outright thanks to community support, plans to utilize the funds to address immediate needs like a security system, roof replacement, ADA-compliant restrooms, and parking lot renovation.

The campaign, initiated in October 2023, seeks to secure funds for future maintenance, working in collaboration with the Community Foundation of St. Clair County. The MEDC grant underscores the state’s recognition of SONS Outreach’s vital youth programming, motivating ongoing efforts to meet the campaign’s January 31st, 2024 deadline.
