Board Divided Over Member’s Military Deployment

A Richmond school board member is facing criticism for serving overseas. Raymond Stier, a longtime Air National Guard veteran who manages military funerals across Michigan and Ohio, deployed late last year after planning around a family event. During a March meeting, some board members said his absence hurt the district and suggested he should have stepped down. His wife, Amy Stier, pushed back, saying voters knew about his military service and that he stays involved remotely when possible. She says the board is split over his status.
