Summer Nature Series for Local Kids

Kids in St. Clair County can now sign up for the annual Summer Nature Series at the Pine River Nature Center in Goodells. Open to ages four through sixth grade, the weekly sessions mix outdoor fun with hands-on learning. Activities include exploring woods, wetlands, and prairies, plus nature games and crafts. Sarnia Cadets Honoured

Sarnia’s 102 First Hussars Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps wrapped up its 122nd Annual Ceremonial Review on Saturday at the Sarnia Armouries. Diesel Spill

Imperial Oil recently responded to a diesel leak at its dock on Christina Street South in Sarnia. The leak was quickly isolated and stopped, and containment booms were deployed to prevent the fuel from spreading in the St. Clair River. Cleanup crews worked through the night to recover the diesel, and water quality tests downstream showed no signs of contamination. Local officials did not issue any public safety alerts. The company continued monitoring the situation as clean-up efforts progressed.

Man Arrested After Failed Armed Robbery

A Flint man is behind bars after a failed armed robbery attempt at Lapeer’s Holiday Inn Express on June 7th. Police say Dequantell Jamerson, 37, jumped the hotel counter with a bag hiding what looked like a gun, demanding cash before fleeing. No money was taken, and no weapon was found. He was arrested near a nearby Burger King and arraigned two days later. Jamerson, already on parole, now faces armed robbery charges and a possible 25-year minimum prison sentence if convicted.
