But residents still have not heard clear answers about the cost, leadership, or final plan. St. Clair County small businesses could get a major boost. Starting October 23rd, the Eastern Michigan Small Business Network will accept applications for its 2027 Small Business Cohort Program. Up to 50 established businesses across St. Clair, Genesee, Shiawassee, Lapeer, Tuscola, Huron, and Sanilac counties can receive coaching, mentoring, and up to $3,500 in support services. Downtown Port Huron businesses are being urged to get ready for a big Sunday. The Downtown Development Authority says President Donald Trump is expected to speak at McMorran Arena on Sunday, drawing about 4,000 people, plus possible overflow crowds. Port Huron’s Conner Street is open again after seven weeks of construction, but drivers will notice a major change. The road is now one-way westbound between Electric Avenue and Military Street, and drivers heading south on Electric can no longer turn left onto Conner. City leaders say the redesign makes the busy intersection safer for drivers and pedestrians. The project also added new pavement, sidewalks, signals, ramps, and green space. More work is expected in November, with historic lighting and trail connections planned for spring.

Students at a Chesterfield Township elementary school in Macomb County will soon have a place to get snacks and winter clothing, thanks to a hometown NFL player. Detroit Lions tight end Tyler Conklin returned Friday to Higgins Elementary School, where he was a student from 2000 to 2005. His foundation donated $6,000 for a new space called the Hawk Hut. School staff say 41% of Higgins students rely on free or reduced-price lunch. The Hawk Hut will offer snacks, boots, sweatshirts and jackets when it opens next month.
