Deadly I-94 Crash

A deadly crash occurred early Friday morning on westbound I-94 near Church Rd. Deputies responded to reports of a blue Dodge Charger speeding eastbound in the westbound lanes. Shortly after, a two-car collision was reported involving the Charger and a Ford Explorer. The driver of the Charger, a 28-year-old man from Harper Woods, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 32-year-old Flint man driving the Explorer was rushed to McLaren Macomb in critical condition. The highway was closed for hours as authorities investigated.

M-19 Roadwork Begins

Commuters in the Richmond and New Haven area should prepare for $3.2 million in roadwork along M-19. The Michigan DOT is upgrading nearly 6 miles of M-19 between New Haven and 31 Mile roads. The project includes replacing asphalt, improving drainage, and updating curbs. From late April to mid-August, expect lane closures with flag control, mainly from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, and occasional weekend work. This project is expected to create 31 local jobs and improve safety for drivers across the region.

TEC Students Win Big

Students from St. Clair County’s Technical Education Center (TEC) earned 19 medals at the recent SkillsUSA Michigan State Conference in Grand Rapids. Among the top achievers were Lucas Bauman and Allane Stamplis, who won gold in metal machining and welding, respectively. Their victories earned them spots at the national competition in Atlanta this June. A total of 67 TEC students participated in the event, showcasing skills in automotive technology, culinary arts, welding, and more.

Lake Huron Medical Center to Hold Active Shooter Drill

Lake Huron Medical Center is conducting an active shooter drill today, to enhance emergency preparedness. The drill, which follows federal guidelines, will simulate an armed assailant entering a patient care area, with volunteer victims and no real patients involved. Local law enforcement, fire departments, EMS, and hospital teams will participate in the scenario, testing their response and coordination. Emergency vehicles and personnel will be present around the hospital, but there’s no threat to public safety.
