Parents and caregivers in Sandusky have a new opportunity to learn how to spot risky teen behaviors at a free event next Wednesday. The “Hidden in Plain Sight” session takes place at noon in the McKenzie Health System Dining Room, with a virtual Zoom option available. Man Arrested in July Carjacking

A 24-year-old man has been arrested in Huron County in connection with a July carjacking in Elkton. The victim, Austin Bieri of Bad Axe, told police the suspect held him at knifepoint in his Chevy Tahoe and forced him to withdraw cash from a local ATM before Bieri escaped at a stoplight. The stolen Tahoe was later found burned in a cornfield near the Elkton plant. Last Friday, Aron M. Laycock was arrested and faces charges of carjacking and tampering with evidence.

YMCA Bike Challenge Return

The YMCA of the Blue Water Area will host its annual stationary bike challenge Sept. 27th at McMorran Plaza from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Teams of four will race to log the most miles while facing fun roadblocks and surprises. The family-friendly event includes live music, local food and a spirit contest. Proceeds support the YMCA’s Open Arms Campaign, which funds youth programs, swim lessons and free meals in the community. Rain or shine, the event moves indoors to the YMCA Gym if needed.

St. Clair Sheriff Warns of Jail Scam

St. Clair County families are being warned about a new scam targeting loved ones in jail. Scammers call family members, pretending to be from the Sheriff’s Office, and demand money through PayPal, Zelle, or ApplePay to “release” the inmate. One recent victim lost nearly $1,000 after a call claiming to be Sgt. Wise. Sheriff Mat King reminds residents the office will never request money digitally and urges anyone suspicious to call the Sheriff’s Office. Five Michigan farm families will be honored in the Michigan Farmers Hall of Fame on September 20th at the Barry Expo Center in Barry County.
