Commuters in the Richmond and New Haven area should prepare for $3.2 million in roadwork along M-19. The Michigan DOT is upgrading nearly 6 miles of M-19 between New Haven and 31 Mile roads. Lake Huron Medical Center is conducting an active shooter drill today, to enhance emergency preparedness. The drill, which follows federal guidelines, will simulate an armed assailant entering a patient care area, with volunteer victims and no real patients involved. Local law enforcement, fire departments, EMS, and hospital teams will participate in the scenario, testing their response and coordination. Emergency vehicles and personnel will be present around the hospital, but there’s no threat to public safety.

Students from St. Clair County’s Technical Education Center (TEC) earned 19 medals at the recent SkillsUSA Michigan State Conference in Grand Rapids. Among the top achievers were Lucas Bauman and Allane Stamplis, who won gold in metal machining and welding, respectively. Their victories earned them spots at the national competition in Atlanta this June. A total of 67 TEC students participated in the event, showcasing skills in automotive technology, culinary arts, welding, and more.

A local man, only identified as Michael, received a Citizen’s Award by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office for his actions during a January vehicle fire. Michael was driving on Lakeshore Road and noticed a car on fire near Wilkes Drive. With someone still inside, he quickly pulled over. Thanks to a fire extinguisher he had just placed in his car, Michael was able to control the flames long enough for help to arrive. His quick thinking likely saved the driver’s life.
