Stevens.” This person asks for Bitcoin payments for bond fees, but the Sheriff’s Office confirms no such officer exists, and they don’t accept cryptocurrency for bonds. If you receive a similar call, don’t send any money. These scammers can be convincing, even threatening, but stay alert and report any concerns directly to the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office.

Lambton County has officially joined the fight against York1’s proposed expansion at the Dresden landfill. At a May 7th meeting, council voted overwhelmingly to push for the province to reinstate the environmental assessment the government had planned to remove. Local leaders argue the development, just a kilometer north of Dresden, could lead to daily truck traffic and environmental risks to the Sydenham River watershed. Officials are demanding better public consultation before any decisions are made.

The SC4 Fieldhouse in Port Huron hosted the Michigan Wheelchair Basketball State Championship on Saturday. Three teams competed: the SC4 Skippers, University of Michigan Wolverines, and Michigan State University Spartans. These are the only collegiate wheelchair basketball teams in Michigan. The championship honored Brad Seymore, a local SC4 graduate and Port Huron resident who passed away last year after a spinal cord injury.  Admission was free, allowing fans to support these talented athletes.

This week, several road projects will impact St. Clair County. In Berlin Township, Lathrop Road will close for one day for culvert work. Brockway Township sees lane closures on Emmett Road for ditching and a full-day closure for culvert replacement. M-19 in Brockway and Emmett will have lane closures from Wednesday to May 28th due to joint repairs. MDOT’s mill and fill project on Wildcat Road in Clyde and Grant Townships will cause intermittent lane closures. Other closures include Broadbridge Road in Cottrellville for a culvert replacement.

McKenzie Health System is offering sports physicals for just $15 through August 31st,  at all family healthcare clinic locations. This service helps students in grades 6-12 meet Michigan High School Athletic Association requirements for school sports.
